Mumbai, February 23, 2026: The CII Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) presented a plaque to Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) Tuhin Kanta Pandey, along with Sashi Kishan, Director and Yogita S Jadhav, Registrar, NISM in recognition of the National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM) Campus in Navi Mumbai achieving the Gold Certification under IGBC Green Existing Campus Rating System.

The plaque was handed over by K S Venkatagiri, Executive Director, CII Green Business Centre, acknowledging NISM’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure and environmentally responsible campus operations.

Speaking on the occasion, the SEBI Chairman congratulated the entire team involved in the process and stated, “Sustainability has increasingly become integral to institutional development, influencing resilience, operational efficiency, and long-term value creation. The NISM Campus reflected SEBI’s broader commitment to responsible growth, where infrastructure planning aligned with environmental consciousness. This recognition from IGBC reaffirmed the importance of regulatory institutions leading by example in advancing sustainable practices.”

The Gold certification reflected the NISM Campus’ comprehensive focus on environmental sustainability, operational efficiency, and occupant well-being, demonstrated through measurable achievements in water conservation, renewable energy adoption, ecological enhancement, and resource management. The campus significantly improved water efficiency through the installation of water-efficient fixtures, achieving a 30 per cent reduction in potable water consumption compared to baseline benchmarks. Ecological performance was strengthened with 53 per cent of the site maintained as green cover and tree density exceeding 35 trees per acre, supported by a landscape strategy emphasizing drought-tolerant and native species to enhance biodiversity while reducing irrigation demand.

C Shekar Reddy, National Chairman, CII Indian Green Building Council, remarked, “The NISM Campus illustrates how sustainability can be systematically embedded into existing infrastructure through resource optimization, intelligent retrofits, and integrated systems thinking. The Gold certification highlights the measurable gains achievable through resource efficiency and performance-driven design. More broadly, it reflects the accelerating shift of India’s institutional sector toward structured, metrics-based green campus frameworks that align environmental responsibility with long-term operational resilience.”

Renewable energy integration formed a critical component of the campus’ sustainability framework. The installation of a 670 kWp Solar Photovoltaic system catered to approximately 23 per cent of the campus’ total annual energy consumption, contributing to reduced dependence on conventional energy sources. The campus further strengthened its environmental performance through the adoption of comprehensive rainwater capture and groundwater recharge mechanisms, ensuring that 100 per cent of runoff from roof and non-roof areas was effectively managed and reused.

Water circularity practices were implemented through the treatment and reuse of 100 per cent of wastewater generated on-site. Treated water met the entire landscape and flushing requirements, significantly minimizing freshwater demand. Advanced irrigation systems, including drip irrigation networks and pressure-regulated controls, enhanced water-use efficiency across landscaped areas. These integrated water management strategies collectively reinforced the campus’ long-term resource sustainability.

Operational efficiency was reinforced through advanced monitoring systems that enabled detailed tracking of energy and water consumption, with major end-use systems, including HVAC and fresh air infrastructure, integrated into the Building Management System to ensure continuous performance optimization. The campus further supported sustainability by promoting low-carbon mobility through dedicated pedestrian pathways and a demarcated bicycle network. Complementing its environmental initiatives, the campus prioritized occupant health and well-being by providing comprehensive amenities, including a gymnasium, swimming pool, yoga and meditation spaces, indoor and outdoor recreation areas, sports facilities, and healthcare and security infrastructure, collectively fostering a holistic and high-quality campus environment.

KS Venkatagiri, Executive Director, CII Green Business Centre, added, “Urban institutional campuses are increasingly becoming strong examples of sustainability at scale. The NISM Campus demonstrates how environmental stewardship can be effectively integrated into infrastructure, operations, and occupant well-being. Through the IGBC Green Existing Campus Rating System, developed by the CII Green Business Centre, institutions gain a structured framework to measure and enhance sustainability performance. This certification reflects NISM’s commitment to responsible development while reinforcing Maharashtra’s position as an emerging hub for sustainable infrastructure.”

NISM’s Gold certification demonstrated a structured and measurable sustainability approach, offering a strong benchmark for institutional campuses and public sector infrastructure projects across the country.
