InvIT Investor Base Surges 17% in First Quarter of FY27 as Distributions Rise

Mumbai, 24, 2026: The investor base for Infrastructure Investment Trusts (InvITs) in India grew by 17% in the first quarter of FY27, reaching nearly 6.53 lakh unitholders compared to 5.58 lakh in the preceding quarter ended March 2026, according to data released by the Bharat InvITs Association (BIA).
Distributions to unitholders for the June 2026 quarter rose 15% year-on-year to Rs 5,923 crore, up from Rs 5,153 crore distributed in the corresponding period of the previous financial year. With this quarterly payout, cumulative distributions since the inception of the InvIT framework crossed Rs 97,000 crore.
Total assets under management (AUM) for the sector expanded to Rs 7.3 lakh crore in Q1 FY27, reflecting a 13.7% increase from Rs 6.42 lakh crore in Q1 FY26 and an advance from Rs 7.1 lakh crore recorded in Q4 FY26. The overall market capitalization for the sector reached Rs 2.97 lakh crore, while total equity raised stood at Rs 1.98 lakh crore.

Commenting on the quarterly data, NS Venkatesh, CEO of Bharat InvITs Association, stated: “InvIT sector has continued to demonstrate strong and steady growth, supported by the underlying strength of the infrastructure assets and the increasing confidence of investors. The 15% growth in distributions in Q1 FY27 is a reflection of the sector’s ability to deliver consistent cash flows and create long-term value for unitholders. What is particularly encouraging is that this growth is being accompanied by increasing participation from retail investors, indicating a broader understanding and acceptance of InvITs as an investment avenue. As the sector enters its next phase of growth, continued investor education, wider participation and a supportive regulatory environment will be key to unlocking the immense potential of InvITs and enabling them to play a larger role in India’s infrastructure development.”
