South India’s Steel Sector Set to Drive India’s 300 MnT Capacity Goal, Reports BigMint Hyderabad,

The regional market dynamics and growth opportunities were highlighted during the third edition of the Future.Steel conference in Hyderabad, co-hosted by BigMint and the Telangana Iron & Steel Manufacturers Association (TISMA). The event brought together over 250 participants from 150 companies across 17 states, featuring more than 30 industry speakers. A flagship regional market-intelligence report titled “The Structural Gap” was launched during the inaugural session, detailing Telangana’s role in the steel ecosystem and potential areas for regional investment.

Industry experts addressed key issues including raw material security, policy priorities, infrastructure demand, green-steel certification, and AI-led business process automation.

Addressing policy and operational dynamics, K.K. Maheshwari, President, FTCCI, emphasised the need for continued government engagement on policy matters and energy costs, which remain important considerations for steelmakers.

Discussing manufacturing opportunities, Vinod Kumar Agarwal, VP, FTCCI, Secretary General, TISMA and MD, MPL Group, highlighted the opportunity to strengthen South India’s manufacturing base, supported by improved logistics, cleaner technologies and infrastructure demand.

On the supply front, Vivek Nishant Nath, Director (Commercial), NMDC Limited, brought the raw-material perspective to the discussion, highlighting resource availability as an important factor in supporting future steel production.

Regarding quality standards, Anurag Agarwal, Executive Director, MS Agarwal Foundries Pvt. Ltd., underlined the importance of consistent product quality and process standards as infrastructure projects become more complex.

Outlining the regional outlook, Sumit Agrawal, Director, BigMint, noted, “South India has an important role to play in India’s evolving steel growth story. Better visibility into regional demand, pricing and investment opportunities can help businesses make informed decisions and strengthen the wider value chain.”

The event was supported by the Federation of Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTCCI) and the Karnataka Sponge Iron Manufacturers Association (KSIMA), with the National Institute of Secondary Steel Technology (NISST) acting as the knowledge partner and Quesrow Research & Strategy Co. serving as the research partner.
