SAIL Reports 315 Percent Growth in Q2 Net Profit Driven by Operational Efficiency

New Delhi, October 30, 2026: Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) recorded a 315 percent year-on-year increase in profit after tax for the second quarter of FY27, according to a press release issued by the company.
The public sector steelmaker delivered its highest-ever Q2 production across hot metal, crude steel, saleable steel, and finished steel, backed by an improved fuel rate. Sales volumes grew 5 percent compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, supported by inventory discipline and direct despatches via rail and road. High-value product volumes expanded 36 percent over the previous quarter as the company deepened its push into premium segments, including the stabilization of Vande Bharat wheel supplies to Indian Railways.
Upstream operations also contributed to the growth, with SAIL mines registering their highest-ever quarterly production and sales. This ensured raw material security for captive use while generating additional value through surplus domestic sales. The quarter was also marked by a focus on safety, with large-group safety interactions conducted across manufacturing plants to reinforce workplace culture alongside operational performance.

Commenting on the quarterly performance, A.K. Panda, Chairman & Managing Director, SAIL, said, “Q2 has demonstrated sustained focus on operations, production-sales synchronization, production & sales of Iron Ore, push on high value products, can convert into robust financial results when every unit works with clarity of purpose.”
He added, “Our alignment of production with market demand both grade‑wise and profile‑wise is enabling SAIL to serve a wider and more diversified customer base, strengthening our presence across strategic sectors like infrastructure, engineering, defence and railways.”
Regarding upstream performance, A.K. Panda, Chairman & Managing Director, SAIL, noted, “Our mining performance is steadily becoming a strategic enabler – securing raw material for our plants and creating incremental value through domestic market sales.”
Emphasizing the company’s operational priorities, he further stated, “Productivity, safety and attention to equipment health must advance together – our renewed focus on safety is shaping a more responsible and resilient work culture that will support SAIL’s long‑term growth. The results of Q2 reaffirm that SAIL’s strength lies in its integrated approach – operational excellence, innovation and financial prudence working together.”
