CM Yogi Reviews Noida International Airport Preparedness Today Ahead of Mega March 28 Launch

Noida, March 23, 2026: 

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday inspected the Noida International Airport to review preparations for its inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 28, officials said.

The chief minister also carried out an on-site inspection of arrangements for the inauguration ceremony and later held a review meeting with public representatives and senior officials, issuing necessary directives.

The inauguration of the airport and its cargo terminal, along with the foundation stone laying for a maintenance, repair and operations (MRO) facility, is scheduled to be performed by the prime minister on March 28.

The “mega show” is expected to draw a massive crowd of more than one lakh people from Noida, Greater Noida, and neighboring districts such as Bulandshahar, Ghaziabad, Aligarh, Mathura, and Hapur. Preparations at the Jewar site have reached a fever pitch, with officials focusing on security, logistics, and event management, including the construction of a large ceremonial pandal and a VVIP helipad.

The launch is viewed as a transformative milestone for Uttar Pradesh’s economy. RK Singh, CEO of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority, noted that the airport’s launch is expected to boost industrial activity in the region. He emphasized that alongside passenger services, cargo operations will enable faster movement for goods and strengthen global connectivity. 

According to Singh, the airport’s proximity is likely to position the Yamuna region as a major investment destination, with infrastructure development already gaining pace to support industries. Once fully operational across its four planned phases, the airport is expected to scale from an initial 12 million passengers annually to a staggering 70 million.

Despite the current momentum, the project’s journey to the finish line has been marked by significant delays. Since the foundation stone was laid in November 2021, the airport missed several deadlines, including a September 2024 target and subsequent shifts to April and May 2025 due to pending terminal work. These setbacks led the government to impose a penalty of ₹10 lakh per day on the concessionaire starting January 1, 2025. 

However, the project recently cleared its final regulatory hurdles; calibration flights were completed in November 2025, and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation granted the aerodrome licence on March 6 this year, a day after security approval from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security.

With the terminal now ready and legal clearances in hand, the aviation landscape in North India is set for a major shift. Three major airlines – IndiGo, Akasa Air, and Air India Express – have already confirmed they will operate from the new hub, initially connecting Noida to key metros like Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Bangalore. As the Chief Minister arrives to inspect the infrastructure readiness and protocol arrangements, the region prepares for its role as a primary multimodal transport hub and a global logistics gateway.
