As Diesel Generators are a permanent feature in housing societies and business premises in cities today, monitoring their health, status and other parameters is also of paramount importance. The use of latest technologies and IoT provides an answer to this with the Diesel Generator Monitoring System (DGMS).

Electricity has become such an essential part of our life that even a slight interruption in its supply becomes a hellish experience. The availability of uninterrupted electric supply, both to homes as well as offices, is necessary to carry on with our life and work, particularly in cities.

Though offices and factories have to make their own back-up arrangements sometimes, people living in housing societies are always provided with a Diesel Generator (DG) by the builder of the society. The moment the electric supply from the Mains or the Grid gets disrupted, DG becomes operational and life goes on smoothly. That’s why a DG back-up has become a must for almost all residential and corporate infrastructures for quite some time now. Although the cost of setting up a DG unit is borne by the builders, it is charged from the occupants for the electricity consumed along with maintenance charges for the same.

  • The moment the electric supply gets disrupted, DG becomes operational and life goes on smoothly. That’s why a DG back-up has become a must for residential and corporate infrastructures.
  • There was a time when operating and monitoring the DG unit was a full-time task — keeping a tab on grid failures and manually switching the generator on and off turned out to be exhausting.
  • These systems, which can work on any DG unit, help in monitoring and providing real-time information on fuel consumption, run hours, fuel refills, health of the system and battery voltage.
  • The DG Monitoring System helps provide greater efficiency to the system and saves cost to the operator. It also helps in preventing any kind of fraud or theft of fuel.

There was a time when operating and monitoring the DG unit was a full-time task — keeping a tab on-grid failures and manually switching the generator on and off turned out to be exhausting and contributed to wastage of electricity. Along with operating the DGs, it is also necessary to record the health of the system, checking the fuel level in the tank, and being mindful of possible fuel thefts. All these factors resulted in higher costs for the residents of society. The need for an automated system was extremely vital to reduce the cost and improve the quality of living.

With the advent of technology and boost in Internet-of-Things (IoT), DG Monitoring System (DGMS) has become the answer to this problem. These systems, which can work on any DG unit, help in monitoring and providing real-time information on fuel consumption, run hours, fuel refills, the health of the system, and battery voltage. IoT fuel sensors and smart devices installed on the Diesel Generator monitor its various parameters. Further, a gateway device communicates these readings to a central server via the Internet. The sensor monitors the DG unit functioning through GPRS and 3G/4G wireless technology.PowerWAVE Generators Open Set l

DG Smart Monitoring System enables complete transparency to the consumers via a mobile application. Through the app, they can view various parameters of the generator, know the real-time status, and monitor its power consumption. The health of the system can also be analyzed through reports, which include generator status, and fuel and maintenance reports.

The DG Monitoring System helps provide greater efficiency to the system and saves cost to the operator. It also helps in preventing any kind of fraud or theft of fuel. With the help of this smart solution, the consumers get an improved data-accurate report of the DG set installed in their apartments. It also sends alarms through e-mail and SMS, in case of any anomaly. The operator can also manage multiple DG sets on a single platform.

The advancements in technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) have led to the development of smart equipment based on IoT. Many smart cities are being formulated with the idea of automation. Solutions like Intelligent Building Management System (IBMS), Automatic Meter Reading (AMR), and DG Monitoring System (DGMS) are playing a crucial role in shaping our future societies and in making them sustainable.
