Gen Z Business Leaders Accelerate Careers Through AI, Reports IWG

Mumbai, October 1, 2026: Artificial intelligence is accelerating the rise of a new generation of Gen Z business leaders, changing how organisations identify, develop, and promote future leadership, according to new research from International Workplace Group (IWG).
IWG’s Z-Suite Report reveals that established business leaders increasingly view AI as accelerating leadership capability rather than simply improving productivity. The study found that 82% of senior leaders believe AI is fast-tracking younger talent, while 80% say employees are reaching leadership positions earlier than previous generations. Additionally, 92% of senior leaders stated they would likely appoint a Gen Z candidate to a senior leadership role.
The trend is especially pronounced in India, where leadership ambition among younger professionals remains high. Deloitte’s 2026 Gen Z and Millennial Survey shows that 96% of Gen Z respondents in India aim for senior leadership roles, compared to the global average of 76%. Furthermore, Deloitte found that 93% of Indian Gen Z respondents use AI daily, and 85% feel confident applying it. Microsoft’s 2026 Work Trend Index further highlights this momentum, revealing that 32% of Indian AI users employ AI agents to redesign multi-step work—double the global average of 16%.
According to IWG, AI enables younger professionals to build confidence and decision-making skills far earlier in their careers. Among respondents aged 21 to 29, 95% expect to hold a senior leadership role by age 30. Four in five young leaders report that AI provides knowledge that previously required years of experience, while 79% say these tools help them perform tasks beyond their current seniority level. Furthermore, 78% noted increased confidence in taking on leadership responsibilities, and 86% believe they are progressing faster than past generations.

Christian Schmitz, CEO of International Workplace Group, said, “The organisations that succeed over the coming years will be those that recognise leadership potential earlier and create environments where talented people can develop quickly. AI is accelerating capability, but businesses also need the right culture, opportunities and leadership to help people reach their full potential.”
Schmitz added, “This isn’t simply about promoting younger leaders sooner. It is about giving people the tools, flexibility and support to make better decisions, adapt faster and create more value for customers. The findings reinforce that AI is changing not only how businesses operate, but also how they identify, develop and promote the next generation of leaders.”
