GMC starts drive to free Kaushambi of encroachers
The Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation on Wednesday started an anti-encroachment drive in Kaushambi in accordance with an Allahabad High Court order directing civic agencies to rid residential areas of encroachments.
According to a published media report, the civic body is being provided support by the police in the three-day-long drive, while the district administration is overseeing the exercise.
A division Bench of the High Court comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice Yashwant Verma, had directed the civic agencies of Ghaziabad on July 10 to free the residential areas of squatters. The court had set a deadline of July 29 to completely remove all encroachments in Kaushambi.
On Wednesday, a stretch of the main road beginning from the AAP office to Link Road was cleared of encroachments. Personnel of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) were kept on the standby.
