India Needs Major, Urgent Skilling Reforms, Says Logistics Sector Skill Council CEO

India’s logistics sector employment saw strong hiring activity in 2025, with reports of 10.8 per cent net employment growth in the second half of the year, indicating that many roles are indeed being filled as the industry expands. “The sector will need 47 Lakh additional logistics workers by 2030 due to growth in freight, warehousing, transportation, and supply chain functions. To address this urgent and growing demand, we need major skilling reforms and digital workforce creation”, said Ravikanth Yamarthy, CEO, Logistics Sector Skill Council, addressing industry leaders at LogiMAT India 2026 today. Logistics Sector Skill Council has also partnered with LogiMAT India to Bridge the Talent Gap and Position India as the World’s Talent Capital in the promising logistics sector
The highly anticipated third edition of LogiMAT India 2026, the world’s largest logistics, freight and transportation show, kicked off today with a gala ceremony at Bombay Exhibition Centre, Mumbai. This year, the event is even larger, featuring over 350 global brands from 10 nations. This strategic collaboration is dedicated to closing the skill gap by promoting workforce upskilling through industry-aligned certification programs and hands-on training.

Addressing the need to create more employment opportunities for women in logistics, Shyam Jagannathan, I.A.S., Director General of Shipping and Additional Secretary to the Government of India, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, emphasized, “Through Sagar Pe Samman, we salute women in India’s logistics sector. India’s growth narrative will accelerate when more women stand shoulder to shoulder with their male counterparts in shaping the sector. India contributes among the top three nations in the global seafaring pool of human resources, this is where India can become a logistics powerhouse by investing in our people and creating inclusive opportunities.”
