Lonza to Establish Global Capability Centre in Hyderabad, Boosting Telangana’s Life Sciences Hub
New Delhi, March 6, 2026: Lonza Group AG, a Switzerland-based leader in contract development and manufacturing (CDMO), has announced its decision to establish a new Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Hyderabad. According to a press release, a high-level delegation from the company recently met with Telangana’s Minister for Industries & Commerce, D. Sridhar Babu, and Shakthi M. Nagappan, CEO of Telangana Lifesciences, to formally outline the investment and share details of their strategic roadmap for the region.
Founded in 1897, Lonza has grown into a global powerhouse with more than 30 sites and approximately 20,000 employees. The company enters this new phase of expansion on the heels of a strong financial performance in 2025, where it reported sales of CHF 6.5 billion and a Core EBITDA of CHF 2.1 billion. The decision to select Hyderabad follows an exhaustive evaluation of global locations, with the city emerging as the top choice due to its concentrated talent pool, high-quality infrastructure, and a robust industrial ecosystem tailored for the life sciences sector.
The establishment of the GCC is the result of months of intensive engagement between Lonza’s senior leadership and the Telangana government. These discussions reinforced the company’s confidence in Hyderabad as a pivotal node for its global operations. The move is expected to integrate the city further into the global biopharmaceutical value chain and generate a significant number of high-value employment opportunities for local professionals in the coming years.
Welcoming the investment, Minister D. Sridhar Babu stated, “We are thrilled to welcome Lonza’s decision to establish its new centre in Hyderabad. The city continues to stand out as the bright spot for global life sciences investments, driven by its strong scientific ecosystem, digital depth, and world-class manufacturing capabilities. Lonza’s investment further strengthens Telangana’s position as a preferred destination for innovation-led growth in the global biopharmaceutical industry. I am delighted that the centre has the potential to create a substantial number of new jobs over the years. We remain committed to supporting such endeavours that promise job creation for our citizens.”

Shakthi M. Nagappan, CEO of Telangana Lifesciences, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the strategic importance of the partnership. “We are delighted that Lonza has chosen Hyderabad for this expansion. This decision marks another significant milestone in the continued expansion of Telangana’s life sciences ecosystem. We look forward to working closely with Lonza to ensure the successful execution of this project and to enable long-term value creation,” he noted.
