L&T Energy CarbonLite Solutions Secures Mega LNTP Order for 1,600 MW NTPC Thermal Power Plant
New Delhi, July 30, 2026: L&T Energy CarbonLite Solutions, a business vertical of engineering giant Larsen & Toubro, has secured a Limited Notice to Proceed (LNTP) from NTPC Ltd for the main plant package of the 2×800 MW Lara Stage-III thermal power plant located in Chhattisgarh. Categorized as a “Mega” project valued between Rs 10,000 crore and Rs 15,000 crore, the full Notice to Proceed will be granted once the project secures environmental clearance and completes the initial LNTP period, L&T Energy CarbonLite Solutions said in a press release.
The mega project entails the construction of two state-of-the-art 800 MW ultra-supercritical generating units on an EPC basis. L&T’s comprehensive scope encompasses the design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, erection, testing, and commissioning of Boilers, Steam Turbines, Generators, Electrostatic Precipitators, Air Cooled Condensers, and associated auxiliaries, along with complete mechanical, electrical, control and instrumentation, and civil works. The deployment of ultra-supercritical technology offers higher fuel efficiency and lower specific emissions, helping to minimize the environmental footprint.
Once operational, the Lara Stage-III plant will add 1,600 MW of reliable baseload generation capacity to India’s national grid, supporting the country’s surging electricity demand driven by accelerated industrial expansion, urban development, and infrastructure growth. Commenting on the contract award, T. Madhava Das, Whole-time Director, Sr. Executive Vice President & Head – Energy Hydrocarbon Division at L&T, highlighted the strength of the ongoing partnership with the state-run power producer.
