Mumbai Named Only Indian City in Global Top Workcation Rankings as Bangkok Tops List: IWG
Mumbai, August 24, 2026: Mumbai has debuted as the only Indian city among the world’s leading workcation destinations in the fourth edition of IWG’s Work from Anywhere Index, joining global remote-working hubs including Bangkok, Tokyo, and Barcelona.
The index ranks cities against multiple operational and lifestyle criteria, including climate, broadband speed, accommodation, transport, food, culture, and flexible workspace availability. Mumbai earned a total score of 77, ranking ahead of cities such as London and Miami, driven by high scores in transport affordability, flexible workspace options, climate, and accommodation. Bangkok topped the 2026 global index with a score of 106.5, followed by Tokyo with 96.5 and Barcelona with 95.5.
According to data cited from Cushman & Wakefield’s flexible office research, India ranked at 100 on the firm’s flex workspace maturity index—the highest globally—ahead of the UK, France, the US, Japan, and Singapore. The country’s flexible office inventory stood at 79.7 million square feet across top eight cities in mid-2025 and is projected to surpass 100 million square feet in 2026, with Mumbai operating as one of the primary regional hubs.
The global rankings come alongside new survey data from IWG indicating that 51% of surveyed workers state their employers now offer a work-from-anywhere policy. The research noted that 90% of respondents reported improved work-life balance through remote flexibility, while 80% reported increased productivity. Additionally, 48% of workers plan to extend a holiday or mini-break by working remotely in 2026.

The survey highlighted that reliable Wi-Fi remains the primary decision factor for remote workers selecting destinations, cited by 38% of respondents, while 54% cited burnout prevention as their main motivation for extending trips through remote work.
