Pacific Mall once again supports a noble cause by partnering with Centre For Sight to promote Eye Donation Campaign: Blink Walk | Light A Life

New Delhi, September 5th, 2016: To spread the message and create awareness among public on the importance of donating eyes, an unique walk was organised inside the Pacific Mall, Tagore Garden in association with the Centre for Sight initiative – Blink Walk | Light A Life. As a part of this campaign customers and volunteers participated in the blindfolded walk inside the mall for a distance of 500 metres, at the end of which they took a pledge to donate their eyes. This unique initiative was promoted by Centre for Sight established by Dr. Mahipal Singh Sachdev, eminent ophthalmologist and a Padmashree awardee. More than 125 people took part in the walk and then took a pledge to donate their eyes.
On this occasion –Dr. Mahipal Singh Sachdev, Chairman and Medical Director Centre for Sight said – “There are more than 15 million blind people in India, out of which around, 6.8 million suffer from corneal blindness. Everybody should pledge to donate eyes so that the less privileged also get a chance to enjoy this wonderful gift of vision.”
Talking about the tie-up, Abhishek Bansal, Executive Director, Pacific Mall stated, “We are honored to be associated with this great cause and partner with this unique initiative being undertaken by Centre for Sight to popularize eye donation. We look forward to lending all our support to this noble initiative.”
Blind folded walk was followed by a brief talk onthe importance of eye donation in view of acute shortage of donated eyes to treat corneal blindness and the process of donation and its use afterwards. This initiative was a part of the conscious efforts by Pacific Mall to associate with campaigns and partner with organizations working towards making a difference in the society. To effectively meet the growing demand, it is necessary to perform around 1, 50,000 corneal transplants every year
