Madhuri Misal Calls for Collective Action to Reduce Carbon Footprint at CII GreenPro Summit 2026
Pune, July 31, 2026: Day 1 of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) GreenPro Summit concluded with the prestigious GreenPro Awards, celebrating organizations that have demonstrated outstanding commitment to developing eco-friendly products and integrating sustainability into manufacturing and business practices. The awards recognized pioneering efforts across multiple sectors, reinforcing the vital role of innovation, transparency, and environmental stewardship in driving India’s green industrial transformation, CII GreenPro said in a press release.
The ceremony brought together key policy and industry figures, including Madhuri Misal, Minister, Urban Development Department, Government of Maharashtra; Pratik D. Bharne, Regional Director, Central Pollution Control Board, Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India; Kamal Bali, Chairman, CII GreenPro Council; Dr. Poorva Keskar, Past Chair, CII-IGBC Pune Chapter; and Tushar Yeole, Co-Chairman, CII-IGBC Pune Chapter. The dignitaries commended the 143 awardees and jointly emphasized that climate action demands collective responsibility across governments, businesses, and citizens.
Industry leaders highlighted green products as a vital bridge between sustainable production and responsible consumption, describing cleaner production systems as central to India’s environmental goals. Certification frameworks like GreenPro complement government regulations by encouraging voluntary excellence and continuous improvement across manufacturing ecosystems.
Addressing the valedictory session of the summit, Madhuri Misal stressed that reducing India’s carbon footprint requires a unified approach. She noted that while governments are actively introducing incentives for solar energy, waste management, recycling, and cleaner technologies, true environmental sustainability can only be achieved when every stakeholder embraces greener practices.
To further accelerate this transition, Misal suggested that the central government consider reducing GST on environmentally sustainable products to lower costs, foster higher production, and boost wider adoption of green alternatives. She also pointed out that subsidies and affordability measures play a critical role in encouraging environmentally friendly consumer habits.
Turning to electric mobility, the minister emphasized that the adoption of electric buses must be supported by robust charging infrastructure, trained personnel, and comprehensive maintenance capabilities. She observed that emerging green technologies require a well-rounded supporting ecosystem to guarantee long-term operational success.
Congratulating the 143 CII GreenPro award recipients, Misal reiterated that protecting the environment is a shared responsibility. She urged industry leaders and citizens alike to work together to safeguard natural resources, noting that a green revolution is essential to ensure a sustainable future for coming generations.
