SAIL organises cricket match for Indian steel industry
New Delhi, 17th February 2019: Hon’ble Union Minister of Steel Chaudhary Birender Singh inaugurated a cricket match organized by Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) for the entire domestic Steel Industry at Major Dhyan Chand Stadium, in New Delhi today. This cricket match was a part of Diamond Jubilee celebrations by SAIL to commemorate its sixty years of production. Appreciating the effort, Steel Minister said, “This is a great initiative by SAIL to bring the entire industry under one umbrella. Sports is very good way to keep healthy and only healthy minds can brave the challenges and think beyond today.” Before the jamtch started, a two minute silence was also observed in solidarity of the terror attack in Pulwama.
The T20 match was played between SAIL Giants and Steel Warriors (rest of Steel Industry) and witnessed enthusiastic participation from various steel companies. Players from JSW, Tata Steel, RINL, JSPL, MOIL, ESSAR, JSL were all part of the Steel Warrior team. It was a thrilling match where the Steel warriors were chasing a target of 224 runs put on the scoreboard by SAIL Giants. SAIL Giants won the tournament by 5 runs.
While thanking the players from other steel makers, Chairman SAIL Shri Anil Kumar Chaudhary said “Games, especially Cricket has always been an excellent source of entertainment and plays a pivotal role in building friendship, togetherness and camaraderie within teams and even among countries. Today the domestic steel industry is again facing the threat of cheap imports, which is affecting all of us. If we act as a team and look at the issues to find out meaningful solutions, I am sure that we will be able to work our way out.”
