Tata Housing and Thane Municipal Corporation inaugurate India’s largest independent international standards gymnastics centre

Tata Housing, one of the largest real estate developers in India, along with Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) officially inaugurated India’s largest independent gymnastics centre in a ground-breaking ceremony in Thane today. Situated on Pokhran Road II and surrounded by pristine beauty and a healthy environment, this gymnastics centre will share its address with India’s first wellness homes project Serein by Tata Housing.

The ceremony to commence construction on the 1.2 lac sq. ft. facility of international stature, was graced by Shiv Sena Party President Uddhav Thackeray, Hon. Shri. Eknath Shinde – Minister for Public Works (Public Enterprises) and notable personalities including Shri Pratap Sarnaik – MLA from Thane, Shri Vasant Shankar Davkhare – Deputy Chairman of Maharashtra Legislative Council, Shri Jitendra Awhad – MLA of Maharashtra and Mr. Sanjeev Jaiswal – Municipal Commissioner of Thane.

The gymnastics centre will be the largest such facility in India accommodating 6 disciplines of gymnastics designed on par with international standards. This will also be the country’s first and only centre dedicated to rhythmic gymnastics and is expected to nurture and propel the sport and young talented gymnasts in India into the international arena.

The ground-plus-two storey structure will comprise two team rooms with separate areas for players and coaches, a physiotherapy room, a music room, VIP rooms, a jury room, an administration area, a gymnasium, and a yoga room. It will also have a viewers’ gallery that will seat up to 300 people.

The gymnastics centre is a perfect complement to Tata Housing’s health & wellness mission and its project Serein. Designed by international architects to include world class amenities, the project comprises 4 towers of 33 stories each with a central green activity zone, creating a lifestyle that integrates landscape, community and living. The design of this development takes advantage of its strategic location at the edge of the National Park, 25km away from the sea and near the Upvan Lake – one of the biggest in Thane, further enhancing the beauty of this center as a potential host to national and international gymnastic events.
