Wonder Cement and Montra Electric Partner to Deploy 250 Electric Heavy Trucks Across 1,450-km Industrial Freight Corridor
Nimbahera (Rajasthan), July 29, 2026: In one of the largest electric commercial vehicle commitments in Indian industrial history, Montra Electric and Wonder Cement have announced the deployment of approximately 250 heavy-duty electric trucks to operate along a major 1,450-kilometer industrial corridor. The fleet of Rhino 5538 EV 4×2 TT tractor-trailers will travel across Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Gujarat on routes connecting Nimbahera to the ports of Dahej and Tuna. Running fully loaded on daily operational schedules matching conventional diesel fleets, this deployment establishes India’s longest commercial electric freight corridor to date, Wonder Cement said in a press release.
The extensive long-distance route is supported by dedicated charging infrastructure consisting of 13 charging stations equipped with 39 chargers, ensuring short turnaround times required for heavy industrial logistics. Engineered specifically for demanding applications such as steel and cement transport, the 55-tonne Gross Combination Weight Rhino 5538 EV delivers 280 kW of peak power and 2,000 Nm of torque. The vehicles offer a tested range of up to 198 km per charge under real-world loaded conditions and are available in fast-charging standard options as well as battery-swap variants capable of complete replacements in under six minutes.
This initiative addresses key historic barriers to electric truck adoption in long-haul freight, including range, payload limits, and sustained battery performance under heavy loads. Once fully deployed, the fleet of 250 electric trucks is projected to eliminate 39,500 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually while serving as a scalable operational model for other bulk-cargo sectors across the country.
