Yashobhoomi, India International Convention & Expo Centre, Wins Prestigious International Architecture Award 2025

New Delhi, September 24, 2025: The nation’s architectural excellence has been celebrated on the world stage with Yashobhoomi – India International Convention & Expo Centre in Dwarka, New Delhi, receiving the International Architecture Award 2025. Presented by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies, this recognition places Yashobhoomi among the best civic centres in the world.
Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 17, 2023, Yashobhoomi is counted among the three largest convention centres globally and is the first of its scale and kind in India. Spanning 225 acres with a built-up area of 2.2 million square feet, it has been envisioned as a smart, mixed-use urban development that seamlessly blends technology, culture, and innovation. Designed by C.P. Kukreja Architects in collaboration with IDOM, the project reflects India’s ambition to create infrastructure capable of hosting world-class conferences, exhibitions, and cultural events, while also embodying the spirit of sustainability, accessibility, and cultural pride. The International Architecture Awards are among the most respected global honours in architecture, celebrating outstanding achievements in design, urban planning, and landscape architecture. This year’s edition saw more than 1,200 entries from leading design practices across the world. The award will be bestowed at the historic Acropolis in Athens, Greece, a cradle of architectural heritage.

Speaking on the occasion, Architect Dikshu C. Kukreja, Managing Principal of CP Kukreja Architects, said, “Yashobhoomi is more than a convention centre, it is a statement of India’s aspirations and capabilities. Inspired by our culture and heritage, the design blends timeless Indian artistry with modern technology and sustainable practices. Its recognition at the International Architecture Awards is a proud moment for the nation.”
At the heart of Yashobhoomi is its state-of-the-art convention centre, capable of hosting over 11,000 people. It includes a main auditorium seating more than 6,000, a grand ballroom for over 2,300 guests, and 15 convention rooms with a combined capacity of 3,000 people. The flexible exhibition halls can be configured to suit a variety of events. One of the project’s defining features is its 100,000 square foot external LED video wall, the largest in Asia, which wraps around the building and tilts outward for optimal viewing. The upcoming indoor arena will also introduce India’s first circular retractable roof.
Yashobhoomi has been conceived as a model for sustainable and inclusive urban infrastructure. The campus has been designed for seamless integration with Delhi’s transport network, featuring a metro station within the site, extensive pedestrian zones, and provisions for electric transport. Green boulevards, shaded public spaces, and water features improve the microclimate, creating a biodiverse urban landscape within a dense metropolitan area. More than an architectural accomplishment, Yashobhoomi stands as a statement of India’s capability to match and exceed global standards in design, engineering, and urban vision. Its recognition at the International Architecture Awards affirms the nation’s growing influence in shaping world-class civic spaces, making this moment a fitting tribute as the country celebrates its independence and looks ahead to a future defined by innovation, cultural confidence, and sustainable growth.
A gateway to India’s future: Located in New Delhi, the convention centre is also vital as because it is also connected to Delhi Airport Metro Express line with the inauguration of the new metro station ‘Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25’.
Architecture Rooted in Culture, Shaped for the Future:
The total project area of the ‘state-of-the-art’ facility is over 8.9 lakh square meter and has total built up area of more than 1.8 lakh square meter. The convention centre consists of materials and objects inspired from Indian culture in the form of terrazzo floors with brass inlay representing rangolis patterns, suspended sound absorbent metal cylinders, lit up patterned walls. The 13 meeting rooms that are spread across eight floors are envisaged to hold a variety of meetings of different scales. It is also equipped with high-tech security provisions to ensure safety for the visitors. The convention centre has received Green Cities Platinum certification from CII’s Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). It is built across more than 73,000 sq m of area, comprises 15 convention rooms including the main auditorium, the grand ballroom and 13 meeting rooms with a total capacity of holding 11,000 delegates. It has the largest LED media facade in the country. It also demonstrates a strong commitment to sustainability as it is equipped with a state-of-the-art wastewater treatment system with 100 per cent wastewater reuse, rainwater harvesting, rooftop solar panels.
The auditorium has one of the most innovative automated seating systems which allows the floor to be a flat floor or an auditorium style tiered seating for different seating configurations. The grand ballroom, with a unique petal ceiling, can host around 2,500 guests. It also has an extended open area that can seat up to 500 people. The underground car parking facility for over 3,000 cars is also equipped with more than 100 electric charging points. This honour goes beyond architectural excellence, it is a moment of national pride, placing India firmly on the global stage. As the nation strides into the future, Yashobhoomi stands as a testament to India’s ingenuity, cultural richness, and unwavering spirit, a land that has, for millennia, been a cradle of ideas, a beacon of enterprise, and a wellspring of excellence for the world. for the built environment.
