Ghaziabad gets Rs.190 crore for improving infrastructure

GDA

The Ghaziabad Development Authority will soon undertake 44 projects for improving traffic and road infrastructure in the city. A sum of Rs. 190 crore has been sanctioned to the authority.

The fund was allotted during a meeting held in Meerut on Thursday.

Officials of the authority said majority of the fund will be used for widening roads, improving lighting systems and constructing rotaries for better traffic movement.

Of the total fund, nearly Rs. 20 crore will be allotted for surfacing of roads in Raj Nagar Extension. There is a need to strengthen the roads as traffic volume in the area has increased. The authority also plans to construct traffic rotaries at culverts near sectors 1, 2, 4 and 5 in Vaishali. The authority was also allotted Rs.3.32 crore for constructing more lanes on Holland Factory Road. The road currently has four lanes and two more will be built. The road connects NH-24, Vijay Nagar, to Greater Noida. The project is estimated to cost Rs.6.65 crore. The GDA and Greater Noida authority will contribute equally to the project.

“Road strengthening, patchwork and repairs will be our focus. Since it is the end of the monsoon, repair work can be undertaken easily. We will also construct the Morta ground road, which will be a bypass road towards NH-58. Once the road is built, traffic will be able to move to the highway, bypassing the city,” said Vijay Kumar Yadav, vice-chairman, GDA.

Construction of several roads and dividers is also proposed at Rajendra Nagar, Shyam Park Extension and Lajpat Nagar. The stretch from the Sahibabad railway station to GT Road will also be strengthened. Roads in Swarn Jayanti Puram and Govindpuram will also be strengthened. There is a proposal to build a service road below the Dasna flyover on NH-24 to divert traffic.

Other major works in the pipeline include construction of a multilevel parking lot at Raj Nagar District Centre. An amount of Rs.35 crore has been sanctioned for this.

The authority has also received Rs.20 crore for different infrastructure works planned in Indirapuram. Another Rs.5 crore has been sanctioned for projects in Kaushambi.
