Bureau of Energy Efficiency commemorates its 20th Foundation Day Ceremony

New Delhi, March 1, 2022: The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) commemorated its 20th Foundation Day Ceremony in Stein Auditorium, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. The inaugural session commenced with a welcome address by the Director General of BEE after which the theme of the event was announced by the Country Representative, United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), “Setting the Context,” followed by a keynote address by the Additional Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).

During the welcome address, Abhay Bakre, the Director General of BEE, said, “I applaud BEE’s efforts to contribute to a more energy-efficient economy, and I hope and believe that BEE will continue to develop similar programmes in the future. Such engagement will pave the way for BEE to pursue efforts in the field of energy efficiency for a better tomorrow. Congratulations everyone and all the very best.”
The 20th Foundation Day programme consisted of three sessions:
- Low-Carbon Technology Solutions for the Industrial and Commercial Sectors
- Industries for Decarbonization
- FLCTD Accelerator-Final Pitching and announcement of winners of Low Carbon Technology Accelerator 3.0
The first session on “Low-Carbon Technology Solutions for Industrial and Commercial Sectors” was moderated by, Dr. Rene Van Berkel, UNIDO Representative for India. The session focused on chalking out and discussing the available technologies and techniques that would reduce the amount of carbon for our industrial and commercial sectors. The winners of the ‘Low-Carbon Technology Innovation Conclave’ gave presentations on various topics ranging from Waste Heat Recovery, Space Conditioning, Pumps, Industrial Resource Efficiency, Industrial Internet of Things, to Electrical Energy Storage.
In the second session, “Industries for Decarbonization”, Dr. Ashok Kumar, the DDG of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency moderated the panel discussion. Various industry leaders from the textile sector, pulp and paper sector, commercial buildings and automotive sectors participated as panellists in this session to talk about the challenges being faced in this matter and ways to reimagine production process that reduces emission while managing the economic disadvantages.
The third session was focused around discussions on promoting and scaling up FLCTD project and low carbon technologies in India to improve the efficiency of the Industrial and commercial sector of our nation.
Keeping in view the theme and depth of the importance of this establishment, the 20th Foundation Day Ceremony of BEE commenced with a welcome address by the Director General of BEE and was followed by a special address by the Secretary, Ministry of Power, who then released the FLCTD Accelerator Compendium and the report on Cold Chain. The certificates for the selected winners of the 2019 innovation challenge were also distributed.
The event came to an end with the address by the Chief Guest of the evening, RK. Singh, Cabinet Minister for Power and New and Renewable Energy, Government of India.
