ABB Deploys Advanced Power and Water Automation Systems at Noida International Airport

By Realtynmore Mar 30, 2026

Bengaluru, March 30, 2026:

ABB India has announced the implementation of sophisticated power distribution and water management automation solutions at the newly inaugurated Noida International Airport (NIA) in Uttar Pradesh, the company said in a press statement.

As India’s most significant greenfield aviation project, NIA is designed to handle 12 million passenger journeys annually in its initial phase, necessitating a robust and future-proofed infrastructure to support terminal operations, airfield services, and critical safety systems. The technological integration comes as the airport prepares to begin operations this April, with plans to eventually scale up to a capacity of 70 million passengers per year.

To ensure seamless functionality across the airport’s complex network, ABB has installed its 33kV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) ZX2 to manage safe power distribution from the main receiving substation. This is complemented by low-voltage panels and distribution boards designed to minimize downtime for essential services, including emergency power, ventilation, smoke exhaust systems, and vertical transportation. These electrical solutions are engineered to be energy-efficient and scalable, aligning with the airport’s long-term expansion goals while maintaining high safety standards for passenger movement and baggage handling.

Beyond power, ABB is addressing the airport’s environmental footprint through state-of-the-art water and wastewater treatment automation. Utilizing AC500 PLC and SCADA-based technologies, the system allows for remote monitoring, real-time water management, and early leak detection. These solutions are intended to help NIA reduce its reliance on local freshwater resources by promoting efficient water recycling and ensuring a consistent supply of clean drinking water throughout the facility.

Kiran Dutt, President of Electrification at ABB India,

Kiran Dutt, President of Electrification at ABB India, highlighted the strategic importance of the collaboration in the context of India’s broader economic ambitions.

He stated, “To handle millions of passengers every year, Noida International Airport needed an intelligent, robust and reliable power infrastructure and an advanced water and wastewater management system. ABB’s solution is scalable to support Noida’s future growth plans and is a showcase for efficient power and water management for airports across India and beyond.”

Dutt further emphasized that ABB’s involvement in such a landmark infrastructure project reflects a deeper commitment to the country’s development.

He added, “By supporting major infrastructure projects like this, ABB is making a significant contribution to India’s nation-building journey. This aligns with India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 aspirations, focused on sustainable growth, stronger infrastructure and enhanced global competitiveness.” As NIA moves toward its first scheduled flights, the integration of these smart technologies positions the airport as a model for modern, resource-efficient aviation hubs.
