CII GreenPro-Certified Products Drive India’s Next Phase of Industrial Decarbonisation
Pune, July 30, 2026: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Green Products and Services (GreenPro) Council successfully organized the 9th edition of the GreenPro Summit 2026 at The Westin, Pune. Convened under the theme “Green Products Driving Decarbonisation in Value Chains,” the two-day summit brought together policymakers, regulators, industry leaders, sustainability experts, manufacturers, and green product innovators to deliberate on accelerating India’s transition toward low-carbon, resource-efficient, and circular value chains, CII GreenPro said in a press release.
The conference served as a national platform to demonstrate how eco-labeled products, sustainable manufacturing, and collaborative partnerships can reduce embodied carbon and support India’s Net Zero targets. Discussions on the opening day focused on sustainable procurement, lifecycle assessments, and responsible manufacturing across key sectors—including automotive supply chains, net-zero and resource-positive buildings, and global mechanisms to decarbonize industrial processes from raw material sourcing through end-of-life management.
The inaugural session featured prominent industry leaders and government officials, including Shri Deepak Govindrao Mhaisekar, Chairman of the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority, Government of Maharashtra; Mr. Kamal Bali, Chairman of the Green Products and Services Council and President & Managing Director of Volvo Group India Pvt Limited; Mr. Milon K Nag, Deputy Chairman of CII Western Region and Chairman & Managing Director of K K Nag Pvt Ltd; Dr. Poorva Keskar, Director at Vke Environmental; Mr. K S Venkatagiri, Chair of the Global Ecolabelling Network & Executive Director at CII GBC; and Mr. S Karthikeyan, Executive Director at IGBC, GreenPro & CII CIES.
The summit also recognized industry leadership in sustainable operations. TVS Motor Company was honored for excellence in green supply chain management for OEMs, while the Foundry Division of Brakes India Private Limited and Lumax Industries Limited were named green champions in supply chain practices. Additionally, the summit marked the launch of the “Decarbonisation of the Kolhapur Foundry Cluster – A GreenPro Initiative Report,” highlighting collective sustainability efforts within the foundry sector.
Delivering the keynote address, Deepak Govindrao Mhaisekar highlighted the evolving balance between national development goals and environmental responsibility.
“Development and sustainability must go hand in hand. As a nation, and indeed as the global community, we cannot stop development—we must ensure that it is pursued responsibly and sustainably. Our sustainability journey has evolved significantly, from simple initiatives such as tree plantation to new generation mechanisms like carbon trading, carbon taxation and lifecycle-based environmental management. India has immense potential to achieve carbon neutrality through multiple pathways, with energy efficiency being one of the most impactful. As industries continue to innovate, products themselves will increasingly become carbon neutral, and by 2035 we are likely to witness a transition from a purely economic perspective to a carbon-conscious economy. I commend CII GreenPro for putting together such a platform for discussion and am confident that the deliberations over these two days will bring in action for the nation,” said Deepak Govindrao Mhaisekar, Chairman, State Environment Impact Assessment Authority, Government of Maharashtra.
Addressing the gathering, Kamal Bali emphasized the strategic imperative of environmental transition for industrial competitiveness.
“The world is witnessing multiple transformative shifts, and one of the most defining among them is the ecological and environmental transition. The choices we make today—in the products we design, the technologies we adopt and the partnerships we build—will determine the competitiveness and resilience of industries in the future. The encouraging part is that the starting line is the same for all of us; what will distinguish leader nations is the speed and commitment with which they move forward. Partnership is becoming the new leadership. I commend CII Green Business Centre for playing a pivotal role in enabling industries with the frameworks, standards and platforms giving a head start and lead for India’s transition towards a sustainable future,” said Kamal Bali, Chairman, Green Products and Services Council.
Framing the topic from an international trade perspective, K S Venkatagiri noted that sustainability is becoming essential for global market participation.
“Sustainability is rapidly becoming a defining business imperative rather than a compliance requirement. Customers, investors and global supply chains increasingly expect products with lower environmental footprints and greater transparency. Indian manufacturers have a tremendous opportunity to position themselves as global leaders by embedding sustainability into product development, procurement and manufacturing. Green value chains will not only reduce emissions but also enhance innovation, resilience and long-term business growth. Manufacturers adopting sustainability today, have access to the larger global markets,” said K S Venkatagiri, Chair, Global Ecolabelling Network & Executive Director, CII GBC.
Detailing the scale of certification adoption, S Karthikeyan outlined the transition toward quantitative low-carbon benchmarks.
“Across the world, the sustainability agenda is evolving from ‘green’ to ‘low carbon’. This transition is driven by climate commitments, sustainability reporting, responsible procurement practices, supply chain decarbonisation and growing demand for low-carbon products and solutions. The journey towards credible decarbonisation begins with understanding where we stand, and lifecycle assessment provides the foundation for measuring environmental impacts and identifying opportunities for improvement. Today, GreenPro has certified over 15,800 eco-labelled products from more than 810 companies across 54 product categories, reflecting the growing commitment of Indian industry towards sustainable manufacturing. As markets increasingly prioritise transparency and environmental performance, we are confident that the adoption of GreenPro-certified products will continue to grow, strengthening India’s leadership in low-carbon manufacturing and sustainable value chains,” said S Karthikeyan, Executive Director, IGBC, GreenPro & CII CIES.
