Noida, January 24, 2026: The unfortunate death by drowning of software engineer Yuvraj Mehta has now changed the man on top of Noida’s administrative superstructure with Krishna Karunesh –District Magistrate of Gorakhpur – being appointed to the vaunted position. Karunesh is a senior IAS officer of the 2011 batch hailing from Bihar. His predecessor Lokesh M, also an IAS officer, was removed from the position and put on the waiting list on January 19 in the face of protests over Mehta’s death.
The appointment of Karunesh is the latest in a series of developments that have followed the death of 27-year-old Mehta in an unfortunate accident at Sector 150 in Noida late on January 16.
Karunesh has been Chief Development Officer of Ghaziabad, Vice Chairman of the Ghaziabad Development Authority, District Magistrate of Hapur and Balrampur.
