New Delhi, September 10, 2026: Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has become the first private sector corporate in India to issue tokenised bonds, successfully raising Rs 500 crore through a three-year issuance. The transaction was executed under the Securities and Exchange Board of India’s newly established blockchain-based tokenisation framework,  L&T said in a press release.

The framework utilizes Distributed Ledger Technology to digitize corporate bond processes, aiming to enhance market transparency, operational efficiency, and liquidity across the domestic corporate debt ecosystem.

Under the setup, the issuance and transaction workflows leveraged Distributed Ledger Technology infrastructure, while financial settlement was executed using a Central Bank Digital Currency wallet. The integration of tokenised fixed-income instruments with central bank digital currency infrastructure marks an operational advancement toward secure, digital-first capital market processes.

The transaction represents a major technology integration for Larsen & Toubro’s treasury operations, establishing a streamlined model for recording and managing debt issuances within India’s evolving financial market structures.
