New Delhi, March 25, 2026: The Water & Effluent Treatment (WET) business vertical of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured a “significant” order from the Guwahati Metropolitan Drinking Water & Sewerage Board in Assam. Valued between ₹1,000 crore and ₹2,500 crore under the company’s internal classification, the design-build-operate contract is aimed at establishing a comprehensive water management system for South-East Guwahati,  the company said in a press release.

The project is conceived to deliver a 24×7 supply of safe and continuous water to local households, addressing long-standing needs for improved reliability in the city’s utility infrastructure. The extensive scope of the contract includes the design, supply, installation, and commissioning of a barge-mounted intake system, raw water rising mains, a dedicated water treatment plant, and several reservoirs. Furthermore, L&T will be responsible for the booster pumping station and a distribution network featuring direct household service connections.

To ensure long-term efficiency and modern performance standards, the project will feature a fully integrated SCADA system for real-time monitoring. L&T’s mandate also extends beyond initial construction to include the operation and maintenance of the entire system for a period of five years. This technical integration is expected to provide the Guwahati Metropolitan Board with a sophisticated platform for performance management and leak detection.

This latest contract win reinforces L&T’s strategic business presence in India’s northeast region. According to the company, the project “reaffirms WET’s commitment to expanding its regional footprint and delivering sustainable, efficient water solutions across key geographies, while supporting communities with reliable and modern water infrastructure.”

As a USD 30 billion multinational engaged in EPC projects and high-tech manufacturing, L&T continues to leverage its “strong, customer–focussed approach and the constant quest for top-class quality” to maintain its leadership across major business lines. This project marks another step in the firm’s eight-decade history of delivering large-scale infrastructure projects that support urban development and essential services across more than 50 countries.
