Mumbai, July 30, 2024: MHADA’s Mumbai Building Repair and Reconstruction Board, regional unit, has granted offer letters to 158 eligible applicants from the Master List of old cess buildings through a computerized lottery. The letters were distributed by Maharashtra’s Housing and Other Backward Classes Welfare Minister, Atul Save. During the event, Save announced the waiver of the ₹70,500 NOC fee for these eligible winners.

At the event held at MHADA headquarters in Bandra East on Tuesday, Save stated, “To ensure the allocation of flats to the 265 eligible tenants/residents from the Master List of old cess buildings, the Board conducted its first computerized lottery on December 28, 2023. There were 444 flats available for this lottery. The positive approach of Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar enabled us to take this historic and bold decision, which ensured transparency in the allocation of master list tenements. This decision allowed us to distribute flats to a large number of tenants/residents from old cess buildings for the first time through a computerized lottery.”

He further added, “Following requests for re-verification of the documents of the lottery winners, MHADA re-verified and found 212 out of the 265 applicants eligible. Allotment letters were issued to 158 of these verified applicants , who have submitted the acceptance letters. Document verification of the remaining 53 applicants is in progress. The remaining 54 applicants were also urged to submit their acceptance letters,” said Save. “This historic reform has made the tenement allocation process more transparent and efficient, reducing complaints from tenants/residents. Long-time tenants/residents of transit camps are now satisfied to receive their own homes in the heart of Mumbai,” he added.

Save also mentioned that in the past year, MHADA has successfully allocated around 20,000 flats through computerized lotteries in Pune, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and Konkan divisions. Soon, MHADA’s Mumbai Board will conduct a computerized lottery for the sale of 2,000 flats on the prime locations of the city. “The government aims to provide housing for all, and under schemes like Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) and Dhangar Housing Scheme, the government is providing homes,” said Save.

Meanwhile,  speaking on the occasion MHADA Vice President and CEO Sanjeev Jaiswal reiterated that the announcement to waive off the NOC charges will soon be emphasized. He further lauded the support given by the state government in carrying out the computerized lottery for the master list. He said,   “Under the guidance of Housing Minister Mr. Save, the rules for allocating flats to eligible tenants/residents from the old cess buildings on the Master List were established. A circular regarding the same was issued on December 22, 2023. Previous resolutions, circulars, and orders were revised to form a part of this new policy for the allocation of flats from the Master List. The new rules set limits on the allocation of residential flats and implement a computerized system for allocation, which is being enforced immediately,” stated Jaiswal.

Applicants receiving the allotment letters must fulfill the conditions mentioned in the offer letter and take possession. Failure to do so will result in the cancellation of the allocation without prior notice, and the rights on the Master List will be terminated.

Present at the event were Milind Shambharkar, Chief Officer of the Mumbai Building Repair and Reconstruction Board; Milind Borikar, Chief Officer of the Mumbai Board; Ajit Kawade, Deputy Secretary of the Housing Department, Anil Wankhede, Deputy Chief Officer; Umesh Wagh, Co-Chief Officer of the Mumbai Building Repair and Reconstruction Board; Vandana Suryavanshi, Co-Chief Officer of the Mumbai Board; and Laxman Munde, Deputy Chief Officer.
