RERA Must Be Strengthened, Not Diluted: Abhay Jindal

New Delhi, February 18, 2026: After recent observations by the Supreme Court of India raising concerns over the functioning of RERA and questioning its effectiveness if it serves only builders and not homebuyers, industry voices have called for reforms to reinforce the regulatory framework. Reacting to the development, Abhay Jindal, Managing Director, Homeland Group, said: “RERA must be strengthened, not diluted. Contractors play a decisive role in project execution — they directly influence construction timelines, quality standards, and delivery commitments. Any meaningful reform must recognise their importance and ensure equal accountability across the entire development chain to truly safeguard homebuyers’ interests.
“Contractors should be formally included within the RERA framework. While developers and channel partners operate under RERA’s transparency norms, the real on-ground transparency implementers are contractors. Bringing them under RERA will ensure stronger compliance, defined responsibility and enhanced protection for homebuyers.”
He emphasised that broadening accountability across the entire development chain will help restore buyer confidence and ensure the original objectives of RERA are effectively achieved.
