New Delhi, July 25, 2026: State-run Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) declared its financial results for the first quarter ended June 30, 2026, posting a sharp rise in profitability driven by domestic demand resilience and disciplined cost management.

The steel manufacturing giant reported a net profit of Rs 1,636 crore for Q1 FY27, representing a surge of over 138% compared to the Rs 685 crore recorded in the corresponding period last financial year. Operational revenue for the quarter stood at Rs 26,246 crore, up from Rs 25,921 crore in Q1 FY26. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) reached Rs 4,356 crore, while profit before tax was recorded at Rs 2,159 crore after accounting for exceptional items of Rs 144 crore, SAIL said in a press release.

During the quarter, crude steel production stood at 4.76 million tonnes, while sales volume reached 4.16 million tonnes. SAIL intentionally moderated its volumes during Q1 FY27 by advancing scheduled repairs and maintenance activities. This forward-looking operational decision was necessitated by global supply chain disruptions arising from geopolitical volatility, and the planned intervention is expected to provide greater production stability and support performance improvements in upcoming quarters.

Commenting on the quarterly results, Dr. Ashok Kumar Panda, Chairman & Managing Director of SAIL, highlighted the strength of the domestic market amidst global headwinds. “Amid global uncertainties, the domestic steel industry demonstrated resilience backed by sustained demand in domestic steel consumption,” Dr. Panda said. “SAIL, through enhanced operational efficiencies, prudent cost management and focused marketing initiatives, has delivered a significantly profitable first quarter in FY27. The company remains confident of leveraging robust manufacturing capabilities and continues to strengthen performance while capitalizing on the sustained domestic steel demand.”
