The global concerns over continued damage to the planet have led mankind to tap renewable sources of energy. With Government’s initiatives and industry efforts, solar energy is getting increased acceptance in the country. Since efficient management systems are in place also now to monitor this clean power, there is a need to encourage its usage all the more.

Over-utilisation of non-renewable resources has taken a serious toll on the planet’s climate. By its relentless generation of energy, power, and electricity over the years, mankind has contributed towards producing greenhouse gases (GHG) which damage the earth’s atmosphere. Data suggests that since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, human activities have led to a 45 percent increase in the atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide.

Thankfully enough, the realization has dawned now that to prevent any further deterioration to the environment, it is imperative to switch to renewable sources of energy. And there are plenty of such sources available to choose from. From solar energy and wind energy to tidal energy, there are many clean and natural alternatives that human beings can make use of without harming the planet any further.

Grasping the significance of tapping renewable sources has become vital now more than ever. With the governments all over the world, including India, also acknowledging the problem, the steps initiated by them for the development and usage of cleaner resources have proved to be a turning point for many organizations.

Then, under the Government’s National Action Plan on Climate Change, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) launched the National Solar Mission in 2014 to promote solar power. Solar energy provides multiple benefits, including a reduction in GHG emissions and air pollution which, in turn, reduces the risk of cardio and respiratory diseases in humans. It plays an integral part in producing clean and renewable power which benefits the environment. And importantly enough, clean power generated from solar energy not only generates low electricity bills and ensures the longevity of appliances, but it also keeps their maintenance cost at a bare minimum.

A solar inverter, meant to convert solar energy to electric energy, captures the solar energy through its Photovoltaic (PV) panels and stores it. It then converts the Direct Current (DC) into Alternating Current (AC) which is then fed into the utility grid. To monitor and manage various aspects of a solar inverter, what is required is a Solar Management System. The system tracks the power at every stage and provides real-time data to the consumer. One can remotely access the solar inverter and monitor its health on a mobile app. The system also sends SMS and alarm to the consumer, in case of an anomaly in the inverter’s functioning.

With a Solar Photovoltaic Management System, consumers can increase the uptime and leverage asset production more effectively. Taking targeted actions based on observed trends or degradation of performance becomes clearer. Viewing production data, warnings, alarms and many other key metrics in real-time has become more convenient with the system. It also allows consumers to monitor the entire structure of the solar panel, including the main power and the inverter.

The continuous support of the Government and pioneering efforts of the industry in the field of renewable sources are bound to manifest the importance of clean energy to the masses at large. That will result in a drastic reduction in pollution levels as in countries like Norway and Sweden which have already reached an optimum of 100 percent production of clean energy.

It’s time for India to emulate these two European nations and make a shift from fossil fuel-generated power to solar-generated clean and renewable power. With all-round efforts, reaching a 100-pc clean energy target can’t be too distant a future.
