Tata Communications to Build USD 450 Million AI Network Infrastructure in India

New Delhi, October 26, 2026: Tata Communications has announced a strategic investment of up to USD 450 million (approx. Rs 3,700 crore to Rs 3,800 crore) to build an artificial intelligence super highway across India. According to a press release issued by the company, the project involves constructing approximately 10,000 kilometers of new long-haul fiber infrastructure to link key data center corridors, hyperscalers, neo-cloud providers, and enterprises across the country.

The investment aims to establish high-speed, low-latency network connectivity designed to support next-generation AI workloads. The initiative will deploy in three phases, with the initial phase focusing on the Mumbai-Pune-Hyderabad-Chennai growth route. Later phases will expand network reach into emerging data center ecosystems, including Vizag, Bhubaneswar, Jamnagar, and GIFT City, while linking these routes to international subsea cable landing stations.

The expansion comes as rapid cloud adoption, AI deployment, and data localization mandates drive substantial demand for resilient digital infrastructure in India. Tata Communications stated that it will simultaneously scale its national long-distance and metro network footprints to meet current enterprise demand while integrating the new infrastructure into its existing global backbone network.

“We are excited about the opportunity in the India data centre-to-data centre connectivity, which we believe could evolve into a market exceeding USD 1 billion over the medium term,” said Ganesh Lakshminarayanan, MD and CEO, Tata Communications. “With our planned investments, we are building on our existing strengths to create one of the most comprehensive data centre connectivity platforms in the market, positioning us to capture this significant growth opportunity. As we scale, a growing proportion of our expansion is being driven by anchor customer commitments and contracted demand, providing a strong foundation for sustainable growth, efficient capital deployment and long-term value creation.”

“The AI economy needs more than compute. It needs a network built for speed, scale and resilience,” said Rupesh Chokshi, Chief Product and Technology Officer, Executive Vice President & Global Business Head – Network Services, Tata Communications. “Tata Communications has long played a foundational role in enabling India’s digital economy, and our AI Network Fabric builds on that legacy. Our AI Network Fabric will give our global customers the ultra-low-latency, high-capacity and resilient connectivity they need to scale AI with confidence. By connecting India’s AI and data center hubs to the world, we are enabling our customers to grow and helping fuel India’s next chapter of economic growth.”
