YEIDA says no to houses, schools on farmland
The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) on Thursday said that it will restrict construction of unauthorised houses, schools and other buildings along the Yamuna Expressway to facilitate planned development.
After it found that many farmers are using a law to get land use of agricultural land changed in order to build houses and other buildings in the notified area along the Yamuna Expressway, YEIDA took this decision.
A notified area means that a part of the land is identified for planned development.
Official told a national daily in the Capital that currently farmers use Section 143 of UP Zamindari Abolition and Land Reforms Act, 1950 to turn their agricultural land into residential or industrial area. As a result, YEIDA ends up losing revenue. The practice is also affecting planned urban development along the Expressway, they said.
