Yogi Adityanath Announces Formation of Greater Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad, June 27, 2025: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath announced the formation of Greater Ghaziabad on Thursday.

The announcement will bring three municipal councils into the corporation area, including Loni, which shares a border with northeast Delhi.

Highlighting Ghaziabad’s rapid infrastructure development, especially the Hindon civil terminal—which operates as NCR’s second airport—Adityanath, who laid the foundation stone for PSU Central Electronics Ltd data centre, said that it’s the right time to expand its urban area.

“In the last eight years, Ghaziabad has made rapid progress in every field—be it infrastructure, cleanliness or law and order. Today, it is shining as an example as it has a 12-lane expressway (Delhi-Meerut) and rapid rail and airport (Hindon civil terminal). It’s time to expand the city by creating Greater Ghaziabad,” he said.

The CM, who has discussed the plan with public representatives, added that “work will start soon”.

Under the plan, Loni Nagar Palika, Khoda-Makanpur Nagar Palika and Muradnagar Nagar Palika will be merged with the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC), increasing its area from 220 sq km to 300 sq km and adding a population of 9 lakh to the existing 16 lakh. The GMC, with 100 wards, will add 55 wards from Loni, 34 from Khoda-Makanpur and 25 wards from Muradnagar.

In August last year, the council of ministers had vetted a proposal for Greater Ghaziabad and observed that merger with GMC would ensure all-round development of roads, water, sewer and electricity in Loni and Khoda-Makanpur.
