Noida International Airport and Akasa Air Forge Strategic Partnership to Develop MRO Facility

Noida International Airport (NIA) and Akasa Air announced a strategic partnership on March 13, 2026, to develop the airline’s first dedicated Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility. According to a press release, under the terms of the collaboration, Akasa Air will operate a state-of-the-art MRO center within the airport’s premises. 

The facility is designed to support a wide spectrum of aircraft maintenance activities, ensuring high standards of safety and operational efficiency for the fast-growing carrier. Beyond technical operations, the project is expected to stimulate the regional economy by generating local employment and fostering specialized skill development.

The partnership aligns with broader national and state objectives, supporting the vision of the Government of India and the Government of Uttar Pradesh to transform NIA into a central MRO hub. By developing these capabilities domestically, the initiative aims to increase India’s self-reliance in the aviation sector while reducing the industry’s historical dependence on overseas maintenance providers.

Christoph Schnellmann, Chief Executive Officer of Noida International Airport, hailed the agreement as a validation of the airport’s infrastructure goals. “Akasa Air’s decision to establish its first MRO facility in India at Noida International Airport is a strong endorsement of our vision to build a world-class aviation hub for India,” Schnellmann said. “This partnership will not only enhance India’s MRO capabilities but also create opportunities for skill development and employment in the region.”
