BAI gets new chief
Builders Association of India (BAI) appointed Avinash Patil, as new the National President of the BAI for the year 2016-17 (April-March). Patil was National Vice President of the BAI.
According to a published media report, BAI has 22,000 members across the country, including 326 members in Nashik. He will take over the charge from the outgoing president Lalchand Sharma from UP from April 1.
“The real estate sector is the second largest sector of the country after agriculture in terms of providing maximum employment. But the sector is still unorganised. There is also need to have uniform single tax across the country. The number of taxes needs to be reduced. We will pursue the issue with the union Government in this connection,” Patil was quoted in the media.
He further added, “The real estate sector is facing scarcity of labourers. We are planning to set up skill development centre for labourers at district level with the help of the Government to meet the requirement of the skilled labourers. There is also a need to simplify tender process for Government projects and it should provide business opportunities to maximum contractors. There have been advanced machineries for providing quality construction works, but the import duty of these machines are higher. The Government needs to reduce the import duty so that its cost would be reduced to some extend and builders and contractors would be able to buy machineries.”
