Malls Reinvent Food Courts Into Culinary Destinations

New Delhi, June 17, 2025: Over the years, food courts in malls have evolved into curated culinary experiences. Malls across Delhi-NCR are consciously reimagining these spaces—not just filling them with food counters, but creating a vibe. The focus has shifted from utility to atmosphere and fast food to flavourful journeys. It’s about turning mealtimes into memorable experiences that tempt visitors to come back even when they’re not shopping.

Food courts in Delhi-NCR malls are fast becoming global tasting rooms. International food brands now share space with beloved homegrown names—from iconic south Indian kitchens to regional street food legends. This deliberate blend isn’t just about variety; it’s strategy.

Malls are curating menus that speak to everyone: Gen Z food explorers, working professionals, globe-trotting millennials and families seeking comfort food. It’s a democratic, delicious evolution that puts food at the heart of footfall.

Per Cushman and Wakefield report, segments like food and beverage have significantly increased footprint in malls, growing from just 6–8 pe cent pre-COVID to over 15 per cent. Both developers and retailers recognise this rising trend, bringing a strong culinary lineup to malls.

Besides, as eating habits shift, malls are catering to wellness too. Alongside burger joints and dessert bars, you’ll now find millet bowls, vegan cafés, salad bars and cold-pressed juice counters holding their own. Brands offering keto-friendly, gluten-free and low-calorie meals are quickly gaining ground, reflecting a broader lifestyle shift among urban consumers.

“Consumers aren’t just grabbing a quick bite between errands anymore; they’re coming in for flavour, novelty and experience, says Arjun Gehlot, Director, Ambience Malls. “At Ambience Malls, we’ve consciously evolved our F&B mix from artisanal cafés and chef-led counters to exclusive, first-in-India international brands. Every addition is curated to offer a rich culinary journey.”

Ravinder Choudhary, VP, Vegas Mall, says, “Our F&B experience is a melting pot, where global meets local, and indulgence meets mindful eating. We’ve brought together a thoughtfully curated mix of Indian favourites and international food brands to cater to every palate.”

He adds, “What truly sets us apart is the 5th Deck—our dedicated culinary floor that goes beyond dining. It’s an immersive space where guests can enjoy themed restaurants, live music, rooftop lounges and vibrant interiors perfect for celebrations or family get-togethers. At Vegas, we’re not just serving food; we help create memorable, multi-sensory experiences where food and fun naturally come together.”

Therefore, malls are positioning themselves as destinations where visitors want to linger, not just shop and leave. With food as the central attraction, people are spending more time soaking in the vibe, building an emotional connection with the space that goes beyond a simple meal.
