IRSME Veteran Dilip Kumar Appointed as Chief Vigilance Officer of SAIL

New Delhi, April 28, 2026: Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has officially announced the appointment of Dilip Kumar as its new Chief Vigilance Officer. A senior officer of the Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME), Kumar formally assumed charge on April 27, 2026. He joins the Maharatna steel producer with a distinguished career spanning over two decades, during which he has specialized in train operations, rolling stock maintenance, and human resource management, SAIL stated in a press release.
Kumar’s tenure in the Indian Railways was marked by several high-profile leadership roles, including serving as the Additional Divisional Railway Manager for the East Central Railway (ECR) and Chief Workshop Manager at Harnaut in Nalanda, Bihar. He is widely recognized for his technical and administrative contributions, having spearheaded the implementation of the first ISO 9001 certified train in the ECR and pioneering advanced in‑situ wheel replacement techniques for wagons. Furthermore, he gained national acclaim for leading the beautification project of the Madhubani railway station.
An alumnus of IIT BHU with a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Kumar’s career has been highlighted by numerous prestigious accolades. He was conferred with the National Award for Outstanding Services in 2016 and received the Railway Board’s Certificate of Excellence for Best Innovation for the period of 2018‑19. His academic and professional background is further bolstered by international training, including advanced management programs at INSEAD Singapore and ICLIF Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, alongside specialized training in wagon bogie design at ARI Chicago in the United States.
The transition to SAIL marks a significant shift for the veteran officer, who is expected to apply his extensive experience in innovation and organizational management to the company’s vigilance department. As Chief Vigilance Officer, Kumar will be responsible for overseeing integrity and transparency protocols within one of India’s largest steel-making entities, ensuring that the organization maintains its rigorous standards of corporate governance.
