Odisha Commits to Comprehensive Sustainability in Real Estate and Industry at Green Conclave

Bhhubaneswar, June 20, 2026: The Confederation of Indian Industry – Indian Green Building Council (CII-IGBC) successfully organized the 3rd Edition of the Green Odisha Conclave in Bhubaneswar at Lyfe Hotel. The event brought together policymakers, urban planners, industry leaders, infrastructure developers, sustainability experts, and green building professionals to deliberate on pathways for advancing sustainable development across Odisha, CII-IGBC said in a press release.

Held under the theme “Green Buildings & Green Industries Towards a Holistic Sustainable Development,” the conclave highlighted Odisha’s growing leadership in sustainable infrastructure and environmentally responsible industrial development. The discussions reflected the state’s significant progress in advancing the green building movement, which now boasts 285 IGBC-registered projects covering a green building footprint of 57.57 million sq. ft. Across Odisha, the green portfolio comprises 236 commercial projects, 31 residential developments, 12 industrial and logistics facilities, 2 transit infrastructure projects, 1 built environment project, and 3 net-zero projects, demonstrating the increasing adoption of sustainability across diverse sectors.

The inaugural session was graced by senior government officials and industry leaders who shared insights on creating a sustainable growth roadmap for the state. Key attendees included Dr. Manoj V. Nair, IFS, Member Secretary, State Pollution Control Board, Odisha; Satrughna Kar, OAS, Director of Town Planning, Government of Odisha; Kalyan Chandra Mohanty, Executive Director, Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation of Odisha Limited (IPICOL); Dr Pradipta Mohanty, Chairman, SNM Group, Immediate Past Chair, CII Odisha State Council; Ar. Manonjay Rath, Chairman, IGBC Bhubaneswar and Principal Architect, Rath Architectonic; and Rakesh Bhura, Co Chairman, IGBC Bhubaneswar, Director, Utkal Builders Ltd.

As the Guest of Honour, Dr. Manoj V. Nair, IFS, Member Secretary, State Pollution Control Board, Odisha, emphasized the importance of balancing economic growth with environmental responsibility and highlighted the role of green buildings and sustainable industrial practices in reducing environmental impact.

“Odisha is witnessing a remarkable phase of economic growth and industrial expansion. As we attract new investments and build future-ready infrastructure, it is equally important to ensure that development remains environmentally sustainable. Sustainability must move beyond policy discussions and become an integral part of how we plan, design and operate our buildings, industries and cities. By embracing green architecture, resource efficiency, natural ventilation, daylight utilization and ecological design principles, we can create infrastructure that supports both economic progress and environmental stewardship. As Bhubaneswar and Odisha continue to grow, preserving our natural assets and environmental character must remain central to our development journey,” Nair said.

Addressing the conclave, Satrughna Kar, OAS, Director of Town Planning, Government of Odisha, spoke about the need for integrating sustainable planning principles into the state’s rapidly evolving urban and infrastructure landscape.

“As Odisha advances through a transformative phase of economic growth and urban expansion, the responsibility before us is not merely to build more infrastructure, but to build it intelligently and sustainably. The cities we plan today will shape the quality of life for generations to come. By integrating green building practices, climate resilience, resource efficiency, and thoughtful urban planning into our development agenda, we have a unique opportunity to create cities that are not only engines of growth but also models of sustainability, inclusivity, and resilience. Odisha is well positioned to lead this transition towards a greener and more robust future,” Kar stated.

Speaking on the role of sustainable infrastructure in industrial development, Kalyan Chandra Mohanty, Executive Director, Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation of Odisha Limited (IPICOL), underscored the importance of embedding green principles in Odisha’s investment and industrial ecosystem.

While our priority remains attracting investments, creating world-class industrial infrastructure and generating employment opportunities, we firmly believe that economic progress and environmental stewardship must advance together. Odisha is responding to this shift by actively promoting green industries, clean technologies and sustainable manufacturing. Delivering the welcome and theme address, Ar. Manonjay Rath, Chairman, IGBC Bhubaneswar and Principal Architect, Rath Architectonic, highlighted the growing momentum of the green building movement in India and emphasized the need for integrating sustainability into every aspect of infrastructure development. He noted that Odisha stands at a critical juncture where rapid urbanization and industrial growth present an opportunity to create future-ready, resource-efficient and climate-resilient infrastructure.

The conclave also featured an exclusive panel discussion on “Strategic Pathways for a Sustainable Economy – Key Contributing Factors through Green Initiatives in Odisha,” moderated by Ar. Tara Prasad Dhal, Principal Architect, The Design Group. The panel brought together eminent officials and experts including Er. Trinatha Behera, Chief Engineer (Civil), Works Department, Government of Odisha; Prabhudutta Dash, Planning Member, Industrial Development Corporation of Odisha Limited (IDCO); Soumya Ranjan, Technical Director, Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency (OREDA); Dr. Bankim Chandra Tripathy, Chief Scientist, CSIR–Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (IMMT), Bhubaneswar; and Kavita Kadambala, Deputy General Manager (Architect), Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO). The panel deliberated on sustainable urban planning, renewable energy adoption, green industrial infrastructure, climate resilience, resource efficiency, and the policy interventions required to accelerate Odisha’s transition towards a sustainable and low-carbon economy.

A special Master Speaker Session on “Holistic Sustainable Wellbeing in the Time of Business & Transformation” was introduced by Ar. Gautam Agrawal, Principal Architect, Prakruti Vastukala Design Studio, and delivered by Dr. Vedula Ramalakshmi, Transformation Coach and Healer, who shared valuable insights on the importance of mental, physical and emotional wellbeing in driving personal excellence, organizational resilience and sustainable business growth.

The conclave also hosted a technical session on “Navigating the Path to Green & Net Zero Factories & Industrial Facilities,” chaired by Manoj Kar, Director, Emperean Developers and Past Chair, IGBC Bhubaneswar. The session featured a presentation by Ar. Saurav Choudhury, Counsellor & Team Lead, IGBC Green Logistics & Warehousing, who shared IGBC’s experiences and India’s journey in advancing low-carbon industrial infrastructure. Pratyush Kumar Nayak, General Manager and ICML Head, ITC Limited, spoke on building climate-resilient factories, while Simmiy Malhotra, VP – Business Strategy & Branding, Kidin Industries Pvt. Ltd., highlighted sustainable cleaning solutions for buildings and industries. The discussions focused on reducing environmental footprints while enhancing operational efficiency, resilience and competitiveness.

Another technical session on “Promising Green & Net Zero Technologies and Solutions for Sustainable Commissioning & Operations” was chaired by Amit Kothari, Founder, Everest Automation and Member, CII Odisha State Council. The session showcased innovative technologies and solutions that can accelerate decarbonization and improve building performance. Roshan Das, Manager Infinity – East Project Business, Saint-Gobain Glass India Pvt. Ltd., presented on futuristic materials for decarbonizing buildings; Subhabrata Chakraborty, Regional Manager – Sales & Marketing, Supreme Petrochem Ltd., discussed energy-efficient insulation solutions for commercial and industrial buildings; and Ajaya Sahu, Assistant Manager – VRV Business, Daikin Airconditioning India Pvt. Ltd., shared insights on energy-efficient HVAC systems for high-performance assets. Together, the speakers highlighted the critical role of innovation, advanced materials, and energy-efficient technologies in enabling sustainable construction and net-zero operations.

The conclave reiterated the importance of collaborative action among government agencies, industry stakeholders, urban planners, developers, and sustainability professionals to create an ecosystem that supports responsible growth and environmental conservation. The event concluded with a strong call for accelerating the adoption of green building practices, resource-efficient industrial infrastructure, and low-carbon technologies to support Odisha’s vision of becoming a leading hub for sustainable development and green economic growth.
