SAIL Achieves Best-Ever Milestones in H1 FY27 and Maintains Strong Momentum in September

New Delhi, October 5, 2026: Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) achieved multiple best-ever production, sales, and operational milestones during the first half of the 2026–27 financial year (H1 FY27) and the month of September 2026, according to an official press release issued by the company.

For the cumulative period from April to September 2026, the public sector steelmaker recorded its highest-ever production of hot metal at 10.2 million tonnes (MT), crude steel at 9.6 MT, and finished steel at 8.39 MT, reflecting growth of 2 percent, 1 percent, and 1 percent, respectively, over the same period last year. High-end steel production reached a record 2 MT, marking a 30 percent year-on-year increase. Iron ore production grew 13 percent, while iron ore sales surged 190 percent to 2.671 MT. Dispatches to Indian Railways for long rails and wheels and axles also rose by 7 percent and 3 percent, respectively.

On the financial and operational front, specific energy consumption improved to 6.17 G.Cal/tcs. During H1 FY27, SAIL reduced its inventory by approximately 0.145 MT and lowered its borrowings by about Rs 1,080 crore.

In September 2026, SAIL recorded its highest-ever September saleable steel sales of 1.69 MT, up 4 percent year-on-year. Sales of its branded TMT bars surpassed 1.5 lakh tonnes, while finished steel output reached 92 percent of total saleable steel production. Iron ore production for the month rose 8 percent, and iron ore sales grew 134 percent to 0.492 MT. The company further reduced inventory by around 0.192 MT and borrowings by roughly Rs 208 crore during September.

Commenting on the overall performance, Dr. A.K.
