Telangana’s First Government Building Achieves Prestigious IGBC Net Zero Energy Certification by Design

Future City (Telangana), June 12, 2026: The Future City Development Authority (FCDA) Office Building has officially become the first government building in Telangana to achieve the Net Zero Energy Certification by design from the Confederation of Indian Industry’s (CII) Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). The official certification was formally presented by C. Shekar Reddy, National Chairman of the IGBC, to K. Shashanka, IAS, Commissioner of the FCDA. The presentation took place during an inaugural ceremony held on June 10, 2026, in the presence of Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, FCDA said in a press release.

Speaking at the public function, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy emphasized the state’s dedication to eco-friendly urban development. “Telangana is committed to building the cities that are sustainable, resilient, and environmentally responsible. The FCDA building achieving the IGBC Net Zero Energy Design Certification, the first government building in Telangana to do so, is a significant milestone in this journey. It demonstrates how public infrastructure can lead by example in adopting green building practices and reducing environmental impact. As we shape Future City and other urban development initiatives, sustainability will remain at the core of our vision. I encourage government institutions, private developers, industries, and citizens to embrace green and net zero building principles. Together, we can create a cleaner, healthier, and more energy-efficient Telangana for generations to come,” the Chief Minister stated.
The FCDA Office Building has been engineered from its inception to operate entirely as a Net Zero Energy facility. It achieves this by offsetting 100 percent of its annual energy consumption through a strategic combination of onsite renewable energy generation and offsite green power procurement. Notably, the project features a 40 kWp rooftop solar photovoltaic system projected to generate roughly 60,000 kWh of clean energy each year, while the remaining power requirements will be fulfilled via green energy procurement under Telangana’s official Green Tariff policy.

To drastically minimize operational energy use, the building incorporates advanced energy-efficient design elements. Key installations include a high-performance HVAC system and energy-efficient lighting fixtures. Furthermore, the architectural design features a high window-to-wall ratio to maximize natural daylight penetration, substantially cutting down the facility’s reliance on artificial illumination.
Upon receiving the certification, K. Shashanka, IAS, Commissioner of the FCDA, highlighted the broader vision for the region. “This recognition reflects our commitment to creating Future City as a model for sustainable urban development. The FCDA Office Building shows how innovative design, renewable energy integration and resource-efficient planning can come together to create infrastructure that is environmentally responsible and future-ready,” Shashanka said.

Applauding the state’s forward-thinking approach, C. Shekar Reddy, National Chairman of the IGBC, noted the broader impact on public sector design. “The FCDA Office Building sets a new benchmark for sustainable government infrastructure in Telangana. By embracing Net Zero Energy principles at the design stage, the project demonstrates how public buildings can lead the transition towards a low-carbon and energy-efficient future. We congratulate the Government of Telangana and FCDA for this pioneering achievement,” Reddy commented. The success of this project strongly reinforces Future City’s blueprint of developing a world-class urban ecosystem that champions environmental resilience and innovation across the nation.
