L&T Consortium Secures Contract For Automated People Mover System At Dubai’s Al Maktoum Airport

New Delhi, August 20, 2026: The Transportation Infrastructure business vertical of Larsen & Toubro (L&T), operating in a consortium with Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), has secured a large contract valued between Rs 2,500 crore and Rs 5,000 crore to design and build the Automated People Mover (APM) System for Phase 1 of Al Maktoum International Airport in Dubai. L&T said in a press release.

The transit infrastructure project is being developed by Dubai Aviation City Corporation and implemented through Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects as part of a multi-phase expansion program. Upon completion, Al Maktoum International Airport is designed to become the world’s largest airport, with an annual capacity of 260 million passengers and 12 million tonnes of freight.

Under the turnkey agreement, the MHI-L&T consortium will oversee the complete delivery, construction, supply, testing, commissioning, and operational readiness of the APM infrastructure. Within the Design-and-Build contract, L&T will manage the design, procurement, delivery, and integration of critical APM infrastructure, including guideways, DC traction substations, power distribution, signaling, telecommunications, onboard vehicle communications, platform screen doors, and depot equipment.

With MHI’s proven APM Systems and L&T’s extensive integrated systems experience supported by world-class Engineering Designs Centre, enables us to execute such projects with a strong focus on safety and quality”.
