Chennai, June 10, 2026: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre officially commenced the 25th edition of Green Power, its flagship annual conference and exposition for the renewable energy sector, at the ITC Grand Chola in Chennai. The silver jubilee event has assembled over 400 industry professionals, policymakers, technology innovators, and investors. The primary focus of the two-day summit is to coordinate strategies to accelerate the clean energy transition and support the Central Government’s target of reaching 500 gigawatts (GW) of non-fossil fuel energy capacity by 2030.

Thiru CTR Nirmal Kumar, Minister for Energy Resources & Law for the Government of Tamil Nadu, served as the Chief Guest for the inaugural session. Addressing the delegation, the Minister announced state-level reforms aimed at creating a more reliable environment for clean energy investments.

“Tamil Nadu is developing a transparent online system for renewable energy applications and will open solar and wind projects in a calibrated manner after completing load flow studies across the state. The State Government was reviewing renewable energy policies, assessing transmission capacity, removing third-party blockages, and creating a transparent system for genuine investors.”

Jamshyd N. Godrej, Chairman of CII–Sohrabji Godrej GBC and Chairman & Managing Director of Godrej & Boyce, delivered a special address reflecting on the organization’s quarter-century history. He emphasized the broad structural impact the center has established across multiple facets of Indian trade.

“Green Business Centre of CII, now 25 years old, had done remarkable work in energy efficiency, green buildings, green company ratings, and green product ratings, making a significant difference to Indian industry.”

Providing a detailed statistical baseline for the event’s deliberations, Ramesh Kymal, Chairman of the Renewable Energy Council at CII–Sohrabji Godrej GBC, mapped out the current scale of the domestic market.

“Green Power has become one of the country’s leading platforms for deliberations on renewable energy over the past 25 years, with India’s non-fossil fuel-based power generation capacity having reached 288 GW, including 154 GW of solar, 56 GW of wind, 51 GW of hydro, 8 GW of nuclear, and the rest from other renewable energy sources.”

The discussion also highlighted localized financial frameworks and the commercial competitiveness of regional manufacturing hubs. Mr. Ravichandran Purushothaman, Chairman of the CII Southern Region and President of Danfoss India, targeted the specific economic dynamics governing small and medium enterprises.

“Energy competitiveness will be central to the growth of MSMEs and manufacturing in Tamil Nadu and Southern India. A 40 percent discount during daytime and a 40 percent premium during evening peak hours must be considered while the state should focus on wind repowering, factory rooftop solar, agriculture solarization, heat pumps, and industrial electrification also.”

Closing out the executive commentary, Sujoy Ghosh, Co-Chairman of the Renewable Energy Council at CII–Sohrabji GBC and VP & Country MD – India for First Solar, summarized the evolving priorities that have come to define the modern clean energy sector.

“Over the past two and a half decades, the deliberations at Green Power had reaffirmed the need for standardization, transparency, R&D, greening the grid, structural reforms, MSME competitiveness, repowering, rooftop solarization, and agriculture solarization as key priorities for the renewable energy sector.”

The inaugural assembly concluded with the launch of two key publications: a comprehensive bulletin titled “Best Practices for Ground Mounted Solar and Wind Plants,” which compiles data from 43 distinct operational facilities, alongside a dedicated coffee table book highlighting notable green building architectures across India. The remaining summit schedule will feature technical sessions alongside the 8th Edition of the CII Performance Excellence Awards to honor high-performing solar, wind, and hybrid power installations.
