Why you must go for multipoint connection?

Besides reduced electricity tariff and transparent billing, consumers using multipoint connections can avail themselves of a host of benefits. Multipoint connections for high-rise apartments were mandated by the UPERC quite some time back and many housing societies have already converted to these. There is no reason why your society should not be among them. 

The Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC), in suo moto proceedings to implement the 13th amendment to the Electricity Supply Code, had made multipoint connection mandatory for high-rise apartments. The order had stated that all the single-point connections shall be converted to multipoint connections with the consent of at least 51 per cent of the apartment-dwellers. This brought a huge relief to consumers living in high-risers as they could now avail electricity directly from the Electricity Department. It goes without saying that direct connection entails multiple benefits to the consumers.

In a single-point connection, the UPERC allows a margin of 5 per cent to the builder to charge on the set tariff. In multipoint, however, the tariff is set by the Electricity Department, which leads to apartment-dwellers saving a lot of money on electricity consumption. To cite an example, if a user consumes about 600 units per month, he/she can easily save a minimum of Rs 10,000 every year on electricity bill.

And it’s not just the reduced tariff. The bills generated by the Electricity Department can now be used as legal address proof. At a one-time cost, consumers can avail benefits directly from the department.

In multipoint connection, a meter is provided by the distribution company (DISCOM) near the society and the internal distribution network is provided by the builder. The common area power charges are calculated as difference between the reading of the reference meter and the sum of the consumers’ meters.
