State Resource Centre To Launch Literacy Centres Across Bahraich, Balrampur, and Mirzapur Districts

Lucknow, July 7, 2026: The Executive Committee and Governing Body of the State Resource Centre, Uttar Pradesh, successfully concluded a high-level meeting today under the chairmanship of Sanjay R. Bhoosreddy, IAS (Retd.), Chairman of the State Resource Centre, Uttar Pradesh. The meeting, held at the Literacy House on Kanpur Road, resulted in major approvals for expanding adult education and literacy programmes across the state, specifically targeting the rural pockets of Bahraich, Balrampur, and Mirzapur districts.

As part of the approved initiatives, the State Resource Centre will greenlight the operation of Functional Literacy Centres across multiple Gram Panchayats to target illiterate women and men. In the Mirzapur district, approval was granted for the operation of Functional Literacy Centres in 20 Gram Panchayats under the Matwar Nyaya Panchayat. Under this initiative, illiterate persons residing in these Gram Panchayats will be made functionally literate and integrated into the mainstream of education.

A similar framework will be deployed in the Bahraich district, where approval was granted for the operation of Functional Literacy Centres in 20 Gram Panchayats under the Atthaisa Nyaya Panchayat, Jarwal Development Block, and the Dadhela Nyaya Panchayat, Kaisarganj Development Block. Under this initiative, illiterate persons residing in these Gram Panchayats will be made functionally literate and integrated into the mainstream of education. Furthermore, approval was also granted for the operation of Functional Literacy Centres in 20 Gram Panchayats under the Dharmnagar and Amarhawa Nyaya Panchayats in Balrampur district. Detailing the exact operational parameters of the upcoming campaign, Sanjay R. Bhoosreddy, Chairman of the State Resource Centre, Uttar Pradesh, stated that under these programmes, each literacy centre has been assigned a target of making 20 illiterate women and men aged 15 years and above literate. He further stated that one instructor (Prerak) will be appointed at each literacy centre to teach the learners. To ensure proper administrative oversight, Sanjay R. Bhoosreddy also stated that one Nyaya Panchayat Coordinator will be appointed in each of the three selected districts to supervise and coordinate all 20 literacy centres.

Providing the project timeline and certification roadmap, Sandhya Tiwari, Director of the State Resource Centre, Uttar Pradesh, informed that the duration of the literacy programme will be six months, commencing on 08 September, International Literacy Day, and concluding on 08 March of the following year. In the third week of March, newly literate beneficiaries will be assessed through the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) and the Department of Basic Education, and successful candidates will be awarded certificates.
